About the Build

Custom-built French mahogany doors with a radius top contribute to the sophisticated aesthetic of this lovely French provincial style house. Detailed brackets, exterior wrought iron, copper downspouts with scupper boxes, and stone with brick accents lend an air of austerity to the window headers and sills. Rounding out the front, square stone columns capped in limestone are joined by wrought iron balusters to frame the front porch and boost curb appeal.

French provincial style houses tend to be relatively formal. These homes are generally square and symmetrical with balanced window placement. They resemble small manor homes with their steep hip roofs, curved headers on upper windows, and lack (in most cases) of a tower or turret.

The French provincial style is as distinct on the interior as it is outside. An enchanting staircase descends to the foyer with wrought iron balusters and wood handrails that cascade into a full volute on the extra wide starting step.

In the dining room, detailed wood moldings on a raised tray ceiling stand vigil over crown molding, hardwood floors, and shadow boxes below chair rail.

Ceiling beams and a custom alder wood entertainment center complete with fluted half-round columns and Corinthian capitals are clear highlights of the home’s family room. A see-through fireplace with fluted legs, detailed corbels, and granite panels that sit above a granite mantle and surround complete this regal-yet-cozy space.

The kitchen features off-white birch cabinets with antique glazing and cherry cabinets for the island. Also included here are access points to a pantry, mudroom with built-in lockers, first-floor laundry room that includes a second powder room, and three-car garage with a second stairway leading to the lower level.

On the second floor, a grand master suite boasts a raised double-tray ceiling in the bedroom, centered between a spacious master bath on one end and a reading room on the other. These three main areas are separated by a colonnade which includes a sconce light and a total of five closets. Three more bedrooms and two-and-a-half additional baths round out the second floor.

The lower level offers a fifth bedroom, full bath, music room, exercise room, and entertainment room complete with a wet bar.

Builder's Note

Being a French provincial style home, this build is a touch more formal than any of our French country homes. Should you get the chance to visit France, there is a breathtaking valley of flowers in the alpine town that inspired this lavish build. I highly recommend checking it out. Fun fact: Annecy, France was also the site of the 1992 Winter Olympic Games.
