About the Build

Jim Wright designed this beautiful French country home with gabled roofs and shed roof dormers.

Some of the impressive details that complement this design include an 8’ radius top custom-made mahogany front door, board and batten, shutters with shutter dogs, as well as a stucco and Warm Springs stone veneer. Massive cedar corbels frame the triple casement window and carriage style garage doors on the front and side of the home, respectively. Brick headers and stone sills accent most windows.

Two garages — one attached two-car side load and one single-car front load — extend the footprint of the home. This set up keeps the front of the two-car attached garage more in line with the front elevation of the study and further complements the home’s profile on the peak elevation of this corner lot. Both garages, accessible to each other, are located on the right side of the home where the lot enjoys a higher grade. Because this grade slopes down toward the finished portion of the lower level on the left side of the home, we were able to build larger windows that invite more natural light into that area.

Past the 2¼” thick mahogany door back out front, a barrel vault ceiling arches above the foyer. A colonnade separates the formal dining room on the right from a foyer, hallway, and study off to the left. Shared hardwood flooring throughout these four areas helps highlight the home’s open floor plan.

Stepping further into the home, a grand staircase with open radius treads and wrought iron balusters provides access to the second floor. Curving wood handrails finish in a full volute over custom-made newel posts. The stairs rise along with the chimney chase of a see-through fireplace in the great room toward a boxed beam ceiling trimmed with crown molding. Additionally, the plan was designed with a first-floor master suite and single-story foyer that includes a space above it for a private bath in the second bedroom.

Down in the kitchen, distressed oak posts, beams, and corbels deliver a casual feel to a spacious environment that includes a separate casual dining area. Three sides of the extended room offer views of the exterior.

Reaching the back of the home, the two-story great room’s eight separate windows are trimmed as one on the wall, offering an expansive view of the beautifully wooded lot out back.
