Local architect Lee Rumora, AIA, designed our Tribute to Frank Lloyd Wright in a hipped roof, asymmetrical form. This approach is known as high-style prairie architecture.
Prairie style architecture was born at the start of the 20th century by an innovative assemblage of architects from Chicago. The most acclaimed member of this group, which would come to be known as the Prairie School, was Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright helped develop this style in the early years of his career, from 1893 through 1913.
Prairie School architecture is often characterized by a two-story frame with single-story porches, a low-pitched, mostly hipped roof with wide overhanging eaves, and a façade with horizontal lines and massive, square porch supports. It is one of just a few styles of architecture that are truly native to the United States.
The home is 10,075 square feet total with 8,735 square feet of finished living space. This includes a first-floor master with a non-permeable master deck and bridge. These connect to a morning room deck that overlooks the home’s built-in swimming pool. Other features on the first floor include a four-car garage, laundry room, large kitchen, grand room, formal dining room, study, vista bath, and mud room with a dog wash.
The second floor has three additional bedrooms and two full baths, one of which is shared. A study/game room, additional laundry room, and second-floor bonus closet (only accessible from the first-floor master bath) complete the space.
On the lower level, entertainment and exercise rooms complement a guest suite, wet bar, and walkout access to the home’s outdoor kitchen, swimming pool, and firepit. High-style prairie architecture, contemporary interior design, and an array of exciting home features come together in style for this fitting tribute to one of the greatest architects to ever live.
Prairie style architecture sounds like a movement that might be exclusive to the Great Plains of the western U.S. In fact, the style is generally attributed to Frank Lloyd Wright, a famous Chicagoan architect. Features include a low-pitched roof that extends past the home’s exterior walls as well as the wide eaves that this construction creates. Contemporary interior design, commonly employed inside prairie style houses, serves to complement this build’s modern exterior nicely.
