Hampton Harbor is a shingle style house plan, making it as distinctly American as it is resilient to the sands of time. Though architects designed the first shingle style house plans way back in 19th century New England, believe it or not, some of those original homes still stand to this day!
Hampton Harbor’s massive front elevation includes six gables built with eye-catching shake shingles. On the roof itself, an eyebrow dormer, asphalt dimensional shingles, standing seam metal and a cupola create an attractive barrier against Mother Nature.
The home’s fascia board, frieze board, casing, crown, corbels, columns, and garage doors are all white — the traditional trim color of shingle style house plans. The windows, boasting simulated divided lite grills, are also white. The gray trim of the shake shingles and siding, depicting the color cedar turns as it ages, serves as a classy accent to these.
Stepping into the foyer reveals oak hardwood floors, ten-foot ceilings, and a wide switchback staircase with wrought iron balusters. Complementing the color of the exterior trim, white library paneling, wainscoting, two-piece crown molding, beams, and cased openings beckon from the kitchen and great room.
To the left, a first-floor owner’s retreat with a fireplace in the bedroom sits adjacent to the home’s charming study. Facing this study is the great room with its 12’ ceiling, grand fireplace, and massive picture window that frames the wooded lot out back.
Exiting the foyer to the right leads to a formal powder room and spacious kitchen. The kitchen includes a casual sitting area in front of a third fireplace. Also accessible from the kitchen is a lovely sunroom/dining room surrounded by windows and illuminated by a crystal light fixture above.
An adjacent screened-in porch opens onto a brick-paved patio in the backyard. The kitchen also leads to the side family foyer which includes a pantry, laundry room, second powder room, as well as three closets and a separate entry to the separate two-car and three-car garages.
The second floor boasts four bedrooms with walk in closets, a linen closet, four full bathrooms, and a laundry chute.
Upon entering the basement or “entertainment level,” the white interior trim of the first and second floors transitions into richer, darker tones. Combining dark knotty alder on a magnificent wet bar with the hand-hewn black walnut that graces the post and beam work, dual pairs of barn wood doors, and mantle of a fourth fireplace lends a modern rustic feel to the atmosphere.
Behind the first pair of barn doors lies an awesome surprise. A small, railed terrace greets guests beyond which the floor drops down another level, revealing a 35’ x 40’ Sport Court with 19’ tall walls. Shooting hoops around the key adorned with an Ohio State Buckeyes logo makes winter practice a total breeze at Hampton Harbor.
This build features a switchback staircase with wide stair treads and geothermal heating and cooling. A lower-level wet bar offers loge seats for watching games one more level down below on the sports court.
