About the Build

Andy Melaragno designed this unique home plan to complement the pie-shaped lot it sits on — a lot that is tight in the front and opens up in the back to one of the Medallion Club’s golf courses.

A custom-made mahogany front door and board and batten siding serve to elevate curb appeal from underneath the home’s covered front porch. Square columns with detailed brackets, exterior wrought iron, copper downspouts with scupper boxes, and stone with brick accents support the coping of the water table as well as headers and sills for the windows.

The interior is that of a large French country home. Reminiscent of an outdoor courtyard environment, the foyer welcomes guests with the sound of trickling water from a mounted wall fountain. Brick ruins accompany the textured Venetian plaster walls along with Brazilian cherry hardwood flooring and tumbled marble inlay. The dining room features a wall-to-wall built-in buffet with China cabinets on each end. The raised tray ceiling is finished with crown molding, casing, and backband just low enough to facilitate the accent of rope lighting behind it. The use of round corner bead on the drywall gives the feel of old plaster walls inside a memorable entry.

A three-car garage off to the left of the home provides easy access to the locker/mudroom and powder room as well as direct access to the kitchen. This centralized kitchen area is designed as a hub of foot traffic through the home. It offers quick access to the formal dining room, family room, casual dining room, hearth/pub room, and the hallway that leads to the foyer, stairway, and garage.

The family room is highlighted by a recessed masonry fireplace with its mantle, legs, and hearth carved out of limestone. It sits framed with beams and custom-made brackets, tastefully accented by sconce lights and stone. Built-in book cabinets and an entertainment center flank either side.

The country kitchen springs to life with maple cabinets in off-white with antique glazing, alongside cherry cabinets for the island and a custom-built hood surround above the cooktop. A butler’s pantry, complete with a coffee bar, temperature-controlled wine storage and textured glass wall cabinets, connects the kitchen to the dining room.

Entering the hearth/pub room, a brick arched entry encourages the transition from formal to casual. Rustic reclaimed barn wood flooring and solid rough sawn beams above help center the room and detail the ceiling. A wet bar, accented with a copper faucet and basin, includes built-in beverages on tap.

Upstairs, the master suite features a double tray ceiling in the bedroom and a spacious master bath finished in marble. The walk-in master closet door leads directly across to a second-floor laundry room. Three more bedrooms, two and a half additional baths, and a bonus room complete the second floor.

Designed with a compact footprint in mind, Chateau Savoie trades the extravagance of a two-story foyer or great room for more living space with a built-out second level — using the expanse above for a master bath and two bedrooms.

Builder's Note

The first floor of this large country home boasts a butler’s pantry, pub room, and recessed limestone masonry fireplace in the great room. A built-in buffet in the dining room area adds another fun touch to this unique house plan.
