Classic Italian Renaissance architecture became popular in the United States between 1890 and 1935. The identifying features of this style of architecture are:
1.) Low pitch hip roofs that are usually covered by ceramic tiles
2.) Upper story windows that are smaller and less elaborate than the windows below
3.) Classical columns or pilasters to accent porch and entrance areas.
4.) Symmetrical façades (although many also have a projecting wing with a hipped roof from the front façade or, alternately, two wings at either end of the façade and a recessed central block in between.
