Often called “the architecture of the American summer,” shingle style architecture is as quintessentially American as apple pie and baseball. Hailing from the shores of 19th century New England, shingle style homes combine a focus on high-quality exterior shingling (builders often utilize shake shingle) with plenty of warm vibes behind the front door. The trim inside traditional shingle style homes is typically all white, creating accent uniformity with everything from casing and crown molding to columns and garage doors. This touch contributes nicely to the overall cohesion as well as the coastal aesthetic that shingle style houses are known for.
